Book Swap 8 – aequa Fundraiser
October 25, 2020 @ 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm CET
Book Swap is back for a new edition – hurray!
Bring any printed matter you’d like to get rid of – all kinds, sizes, shapes, conditions, and languages welcome – and hopefully walk away with some new reading material.
This event will be a fundraiser for our beloved aequa Community Centre, which is in danger of closing due to the huge financial blow of the Covid-19 crisis.
Due to current Covid-19 health regulations, this Book Swap is limited to TEN people. Please register for the event only if you can come. If necessary, there will be a waiting list and you’ll be informed if a spot opens up

The fine print:
16h-16h30: arrival, chit-chat
16h30-18h00: Book Swap!
18h00-19h00: chit-chat, ciao ciao
You can bring a stack of books to swap or arrive empty-handed – it’s all fine.
For every book you take home, we kindly ask a sliding scale donation of 3€-9€. All funds raised will go directly to paying aequa’s bills and ensuring this vital space can continue serving the community.
At the event, please follow health and hygiene guidelines to keep everyone as safe as possible – stay home if you feel unwell, wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth, wash your hands frequently, and keep a distance of 1.5m from others at all times.
A selection of beverages (tea, coffee, cola, maté, etc.) ice cream, and other little snacks will be available for purchase.
The aequa library:
aequa has a library for social equity and has a wish list of titles if you’d like to donate some books directly to the collection. Click the link below, and select “wishlist” from the drop-down bar in the upper left corner.

Book Swap background:The Book Swap was founded in 2017 by Liz Thamm as a way to circulate reading material amongst Berlin bookworms in a fun, interactive way. To date, Book Swap events have raised almost 300€ for Books Beyond Bars UK – a collective of volunteers who send books and other educational materials, free of charge, to incarcerated LGBTQIA+ people across the United Kingdom. Check out more about their important work here: https://beyond-bars.org/
Access information for the space:The aequa CC is an open community space. We are in the ongoing process of improving accessibility and welcome feedback and suggestions.
This is a multi-room and multi-purpose semi-public space. There are usually flowers and plants in the space, which is used by diverse groups of people and occasionally dogs, too. Therefore we are unfortunately not able to guarantee a scent- or allergen-free space.
The space is **not** wheelchair accessible at this time. We are looking into solutions to make both spaces wheelchair accessible. The main event space is reached via two (2) steps, each approximately 20 cm tall. Inside, the restrooms can only be reached only by going down a staircase to the basement level.
